Experimental Archaeology
Posted on February 2, 2012 – 11:36 pm
The Portage Lake District Library will host the Copper Country Ancient Sites Conservancy on Saturday, February 4, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. for a presentation about experimental archaeology.
Dr. Carl Blair of Michigan Technological University will discuss experimental archaeology, an area of archaeology that is a data generating process. He will explain what can and cannot be done with experimental archaeology and show how it is different than the area of archaeology that works with data recovery. Dr. Blair is an active experimental archaeologist and will discuss these issues using examples from his own experiments with wrought iron smelting and charcoal.
Library programs are free and everyone is welcome. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570 or visit www.pldl.org.
